Illegal open dumps directly flow into rivers and the ocean

We strive to end open dumping

Where waste management is lacking, people are dumping their waste in open landfills, often located along river banks, that leak into the environment and ocean. Although open dumping is illegal, we have identified over 300 of these landfills. We aim to identify and advocate waste management solutions to prevent river pollution.

Open Dump to Sunflower Garden

One initiative to end open dumping is to convert open dumps to community gardens. This initiative is a collaboration with Astungkara Way and Jiwa Garden. Sunflowers are used to remove toxins and leachate from the soil that pollution from open dumping has caused.

Waste Management

While cleaning illegal open dumps in communities, we seek to end these sources of river pollution. We advocate waste management solutions with local governments such as Trash Banks or TPS3R facilities to prevent dumping. Our meetings with government often occur in conjunction with cleanup efforts, community surveys, and educational presentations to change behavior.

Help us end open dumping!
